Peony portraits is
a place to explore and expand on the individuality of peony species and
varieties. Each peony will be defined, expanded and discussed
from all possible angles. This will include, we hope, cultivation, hybrids,
relatives and more. Our first "Portrait"
gives a good example of the sort of information we hope to include.
We invite anyone to prepare a Portrait for exclusive use on the HPS Web
Site. If any reader is willing, please write to the webmaster at
(webmaster@peonies.org) to discuss
our needs. We welcome all participants and hope to add portraits as time
allows.

Peony names and the
science of taxonomy are in constant change. Recent changes in taxonomy
are yet to receive wide awareness or compliance. In the interest of conserving
more familiar names, the illustrations on this page reflect conserved names
for familiar plants. Those that may not reflect the most current
proposals are marked with an asterisk*. I hope the intent is clear and
will be clarified by future detailed new portraits.
